Slushy

About Slushy

Slushy is a matching app for authors and literary agents, built by Coconut Tree Labs. Authors make a structured pitch card. Verified agents swipe through cards filtered to what they're actively acquiring. A right swipe is a request for pages and opens a direct conversation.

Why it exists

Querying is slow and opaque for authors and a time sink for agents. Most queries don't fit the agent's list, and sorting them is unpaid work. Slushy only wins if it saves agents time, which is why agents swipe and authors don't, and why every card has the same shape.

Our principles

  • Agents swipe, authors don't. Authors can't mass-message agents. Agents only see cards that fit their wishlist.
  • Structured over freeform. Same fields on every card, so an agent can decide in seconds.
  • Verified agents only. No agent sees a card until a human has checked their agency, staff page, and recent sales.
  • Never monetize authors' hope. No reading fees. No pay-to-be-seen. Ever.
  • Authors always know their status. View counts and request counts, no black holes.

How we make money

Slushy is free for authors and agents. Revenue comes from institutions: grants and arts-access funding, sponsored genre pitch weeks, licensed versions for writing conferences and MFA programs, and, later, anonymized aggregate trend reports with consent. If we ever offer a premium tier, it will be for optional analytics and filters, never for visibility.

Trust and safety

  • Every agent is verified manually. There is no self-serve approval.
  • Any agent who asks an author for money is banned.
  • Manuscripts are private and shared only inside a match, over expiring links.
  • Authors never see which agents passed, only how many.
  • Every conversation has a report button.
